What is PU/PVC Oxford Polyester Fabric?

PU/PVC Oxford Polyester fabric is a type of fabric made from polyester fibers that are coated with either polyurethane (PU) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC), giving it added durability, water resistance, and a protective finish. The "Oxford" part refers to a specific weaving style, typically a basket weave, that gives the fabric its unique texture and strength.

Here’s a breakdown of the components:

  • Oxford Weave: This refers to the way the fabric is woven, often a combination of two or more yarns that create a textured pattern. It’s commonly used for its durability and soft finish.
  • Polyester: A synthetic fiber that is known for its strength, durability, and resistance to shrinking and stretching. It’s a common base material for many outdoor fabrics because it holds up well to wear and tear.
  • PU (Polyurethane) Coating: Provides a flexible, soft, and breathable finish while offering water resistance.
  • PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) Coating: Offers a more rigid and water-resistant surface, often used when a higher level of durability and waterproofing is required.

Uses:

  • Outdoor gear: Backpacks, tents, and outdoor furniture
  • Protective covers: Car covers, boat covers, and tarps
  • Upholstery: Used in making durable and easy-to-clean furniture fabrics

The choice between PU or PVC coating depends on the desired properties of the fabric, with PU being softer and more breathable, and PVC being more durable and waterproof.
